Definite cancellation Muttenz Marathon 2021

Dear friends of the Muttenz Marathon, dear running friends

It is with a heavy heart that we hereby inform you that we will unfortunately have to definitively cancel the Muttenz Marathon on 25 April 2021. We have done everything possible to be able to hold this year’s Muttenz Marathon at least in a modified form, in compliance with the currently valid protective measures as Muttenz Marathons individually with timing as an alternative.

Our new concept was examined by the municipality of Muttenz and the Baselland Sports Office. Both found our idea very good and have subsequently tried everything to ensure that our alternative concept can be approved. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the municipality of Muttenz and the Baselland Sports Office for their very good, speedy and constructive cooperation, despite the ultimately negative decision. We have noticed that our work is very much appreciated and that we could have counted on their active support if the event had taken place.

The situation regarding the Corona virus is very delicate at the moment. According to the directives of the federal government, our alternative concept, despite all precautions, protective measures and hygiene rules, is still considered a mass sporting event and therefore cannot be approved. The organisation of events is currently and until further notice prohibited. We regret this very much, but have to accept it as it is.

Further action

Although we hoped until the very end that we would be able to hold the Muttenz Marathon in some form this year, we already thought in advance about how we would proceed if we definitely had to cancel the Muttenz Marathon.

Even in such times, together with our timing association yourtiming, we always try to offer a quick, pragmatic and accommodating solution to the runners who have already registered and paid the entry fee. We will soon be sending out an appropriate reply form by e-mail, on which there will be three options to choose from:

We think that with these options we can meet every wish of our participants.

  • Option 1
    The Muttenz Marathon shall retain my entry fee and I hereby register bindingly for next year’s Muttenz Marathon on 24 April 2022.
  • Option 2
    My paid entry fee shall be refunded in full.
  • Option 3
    I will donate my entry fee to the Muttenz Marathon Association and the helpers’ associations.

We will find an individual solution with those runners who have already paid the entry fee for the regular and the individual Muttenz Marathon.

We would like to thank you runners, our helpers, sponsors, the municipality of Muttenz and everyone who supports the Muttenz Marathon in any way year after year and hope for your understanding that we have to cancel this year’s Muttenz Marathon for the second time in a row under the given circumstances. We hope for numerous registrations and your valuable support next year.

In the meantime, we are preparing the Muttenz Marathon for 2022, looking ahead and looking forward to welcoming you next year on 24 April 2022.
